Celebrate Lunar New Year 2023 – Year of the Rabbit –
by making this easy Rabbit Origami!

Materials you will need:

Start with a 6×6″ piece of (construction) paper
Note: you can create different size rabbits as long as it is a square

Fold paper in half

Open it back up and fold paper in half the other way

Taking the bottom end, bring it to the middle line and fold
Do the same on the other side

Open up the paper and have it facing so that you have 3 vertical lines and 1 horizontal line in the middle
Taking the bottom right corner, bring it to the middle / center; do the same with the bottom left side

Open up the paper and rotate it so that it is a diamond; fold in half

Open it back up and fold paper in half the other way

Open up the paper and have it facing so that you have 3 vertical lines,1 horizontal line in the middle, and 2 ‘x’s on the bottom half. Fold the left and right ends to the middle / center line

Once folded, take the bottom triangle folds and make it into a diamond

Once folded, fold the diamond downward

Flip the paper over on the flat side where there is an opening
Taking the side corners, bring it to the middle and fold

You will have like a pointed triangle like so. Once that’s folded, fold the body upwards

You will start to see the rabbit’s face.
The tip at the end is the nose; you can leave it as is or fold to make it a little more rounder.

Fold the rabbit in half (like a hot dog)

This step can be tricky but lift the rabbit’s head slowly and it will create a slight fold down below it

Taking the end of the rabbit, bring it to the front – right below it’s head. It will be sort of an angled fold

Open it back up, then open the back of the body and fold again where you created the fold

Open up the body again and taking the middle at the bottom, take it up to the top left and top right of the rabbit’s body – this creates the legs

Tuck in the back of the rabbit to create it’s “tail”

To open up the ears, fold the bottom of the ears to help separate it, then open up each ear

Feel free to draw in eyes, mouth, and nose. Enjoy!
